June NPD: Duke Nukem Takes the #2 Spot

The NPD sales charts for June have been released, surprisingly despite being critically-panned the long-awaited Duke Nukem Forever managed to snag the #2 spot on the list. It comes in second to Rockstar's detective tale L.A. Noire.

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D took the number #5 spot. Making it the first 3DS exclusive to make it into the NPD top ten.

In addition, Microsoft is the only company whose console is showing year-to-year growth in the US, with the Xbox 360 selling 507,000 units. According to Microsoft this is "nearly twice as many units as other current-generation platforms" this month. You can check out the top 10 games for June below.

L.A. Noire Coming to PC This Fall

Rockstar Games has been on a roll- actually, always has been! What's not to say that they never forget PC gamers? Well, they don't! Although, I'm still wondering why there hasn't been a PC release for Red Dead Redemption yet, but that's not point! The point is that Rockstar Games has announced that a PC version of L.A. Noire is on its way.

For this version, Rockstar Leeds will have it in their hands. In case you didn't know, Rockstar Leeds is reponsible developing Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories and Vice City Stories for the PSP, which were great iterations of the GTA franchise. They've also done ports for most of their console counterparts.

With L.A. Noire coming to PC, we'll be expecting for it to have customizable keyboard and controller mapping and of course graphical bumps that help the game look much better than its console versions. One notable feature that will be coming is 3D support. I'm not a big fan of 3D, but it does catch my interest.

No release date has been specified, but expect L.A. Noire for PC to release this Fall.

L.A. Noire DLC and 'Rockstar Pass' Revealed

Rockstar games has revealed the release schedule for all the upcoming DLC for L.A. Noire, with a bunch of it being released today.

Four entire new cases, two new suits, and a challenge are all set to be released over the coming months. A nice option the 'Rockstar Pass.' This $10 (800 MP) download will net you all the DLC to come, saving you over 50% on the cost of buying it all seperately, however the price of the pass will go up to $12 (960 MP) on June 14 (which is still cheaper than buying everything seperately). There will also be a free Tommy Gun included later on if for some reason you thought L.A. Noire desperately needed more weaponry.

If you choose to buy all the DLC seperately for some reason then each case will cost $4 (320 MP) apiece, the badge pursuit challenge will cost $2 (160 MP), and each suit will cost you $1 (80 MP). The first batch of DLC is availiable now on Xbox Live, and will be available on the PlayStation Store once it's back up and running.

Here's the exact schedule of what's being released and when:

  • May 31 - L.A. Noire Rockstar Pass (limited-time discount price)
  • May 31 - "The Naked City" DLC case
  • May 31 - "A Slip of The Tongue" DLC case
  • May 31 - Broderick Detective Suit and Gun
  • May 31 - Sharpshooter Detective Suit and Gun
  • May 31 - The Badge Pursuit Challenge
  • May 31 - Chicago Piano Machine Gun (free community unlock)
  • June 14 - L.A. Noire Rockstar Pass (standard price)
  • June 21 - "Nicholson Electroplating Disaster" DLC case
  • July 12 - "Reefer Madness" DLC case

If you've yet to play L.A. Noire, feel free to check out our review and consider picking it up.

L.A. Noire's New Gameplay Trailer, "Rising Through the Ranks"

L.A. Noire sure is coming in hot! With more and more gameplay videos being released, as well as the release date getting near, it's hard not to get pumped up with this awesome new game being released by Rockstar Games.

Working in the police force is a pretty damn hard job, but like most jobs outside of the force, you get good things out of it. In L.A Noire, you'll be going through 5 different ranks in the L.A.P.D; patrolman, traffic detective, homicide, arson investigator and vice cop. All of them will have you with a partner to help guide you through cases, show you the ropes and assist you in certain situations like investigating (obviously), shootouts, and fistfights.

As you move up in ranks, cases become more difficult, but as long as you do things right, and with the help of your partner, you'll rank up, but it won't be easy!

When cases are complete, you'll get ranked on how you did and be able to continue on with the story, but you can also go back and play investigations differently and see how different the outcomes can be.

You'll also be able to complete tasks from calls you get from dispatch as well!

I swear, I'm getting blown away more and more with L.A. Noire. In my opinion, this could be the best game I may play this entire year, just like Red Dead Redemption. Rockstar, you never disappoint (with the exception of Grand Theft Auto IV, in my opinion) with any of your titles at all.

L.A. Noire is set to release on May 17th on Xbox 360 and Playstation 3.
