SSX Coming in January 2012

At an EA Press Event, creative director Todd Batty of the upcoming new and anticipated SSX announced that the game will be coming out in January 2012. No exact date for the game has been set, but a timeframe for a release is always welcome!

SSX had orignally had its debut as a Playtation 2 launch title and it has a created a fanbase since with it's over the top and just plain fun snowboarding gameplay, much like, in my opinion, the old school Tony Hawk skateboarding games of yore. Since then, SSX has had many spawns of sequels and with the new SSX coming to the current gen consoles, it's pretty damn interesting how this reboot will be enjoyed by new generation of gamers.

"SSX: Deadly Descents" Renamed to Just "SSX," Details Emerge

Originally unveiled at the Spike 2010 VGAs, SSX: Deadly Descents has gotten fans concerned since then, but with new details emerging about the reboot for the franchise, it's safe to say that SSX something to look into as time goes on. The one thing that's noticeable, even in the header of this news story is that the game has dropped "Deadly Descents" from its title.

Game Informer was lucky enough to get an exclusive interview with the Creative Director of the game, Todd Batty. Apparently, Deadly Descents is a game mode in the game and "is all about survival gameplay." He also said that, "Speed Descent" and "Tricky Descent" will be other modes. Judging by the names "Speed Descent" may be like a time attack mode, while "Tricky Descent" sounds like a mode to set up a high score with, well...tricks!

People also complained that in the game's first teaser, it didn't look like the classic games, but rest assured, it'll all be in there.

SSX is set to release on Xbox 360 and Playstation 3.

THQ and Random House Publishing Join Forces

THQ announced a deal with Random House Publishing Group today. The deal will form a joint team which will work to create new IP's that span video games and books. The hope being that this may also expand to other media forms, as well as creating "world bibles" for properties via the Random House Worlds Division.

"Working with the incredible team at Random House, we expect to build a huge IP universe from the ground up, exploring the characters, settings, and stories of these worlds in ways that let each medium do what it does best, and giving fans a truly unequaled experience." Says THQ core games director Lenny Brown. "We hope to make this relationship the gold standard in transmedia."

This partnership is built on the one established with Homefront which had a prequel novel The Voice of Freedom, which was published by Del Rey Books (a subsidiary of Random House). Similar cross-media properties have proven successful in the past with EA's Deadspace property, and the Halo franchise, so it's logical to think that THQ could have similar success with this deal.
