Double Fine Working on Sesame Street Kinect Game

So Sesame Street and Double Fine are joining forces and heading to the 360. Yes Double Fine, the studio behind Psychonauts, Stacking, Brutal Legend, and other cult classics is taking the reigns of Sesame Street: Once Upon a Monster for Kinect.

The game is being described as a "truly original interactive experience," where players team up with Elmo, Cookie Monster, Big Bird, and other classic Sesame Street characters in the world of a living storybook.

“It’s great to be working with Warner Bros., especially on a game like Sesame Street: Once Upon a Monster, which brings together so many things we all care about,” said Tim Schafer, President and CEO of Double Fine Productions.

Having no word yet on the release date this is definitely one to keep an eye on. Combine Jim Henson's creations with Schafer's creative artistic output toss in some Kinect controls and you have a recipe for potential greatness. We could potentially have a surprise masterpiece on our hands.

Double Fine's Next Game "Stacking" Announced

Earlier this year Double Fine Studios, who have brought us such critically acclaimed games such as Psychonauts and Brutal Legend, released a small downloadable game "Costume Quest". The Halloween themed RPG was released on PS3 and Xbox Live Arcade for a lower price. This is part of a new direction the company is going in which they focus more creativity into smaller, more manageable games.

Which brings us to the second offering Double Fine has, Stacking. Stacking has you playing Charlie Blackmore, a Russian stacking doll in a 1930's backdrop. In this third person adventure puzzle game you solve various puzzles by utilizing other, bigger stacking dolls. With multiple ways to solve these mind bending puzzles this game is sure to have people coming back for more.

Stacking is set to drop on Playstation Network, and XBLA sometime in the Spring of 2011.

Ron Gilbert Joins Double Fine (Now It's More Like Triple Fine)

Back in the heyday of PC gaming LucasArts was one of the top dogs. Whether it was with Star Wars games like "X-Wing" "Tie Fighter" or their comedic adventure games like "Day of the Tentacle" "Maniac Mansion 2" and "Full Throttle". Two of the devs from LucasArts, Tim Schafer and Ron Gilbert went on to become renowned funny-men of the comedic genre. Things have now gone full circle as Ron Gilbert has joined Schafer at Double Fine Games which is a major pickup for the San Francisco based developer. Gilbert has more recently been known for his work on the smash hit "DeathSpank" while Schafer and Double Fine are at work on multiple "bite sized" titles. Their upcoming title "Costume Quest" will be released on Halloween and from the way it looks, DF will make more money on that than they did on Brutal Legend. (Sad Face)
