Keiji Inafune Sorry About Mega Man Legends 3 Cancellation

Cancellations are always sad to hear, especially when some games are looking really good. Recently, Capcom had cancelled Mega Man Legends 3. What's worse to hear was that there was a Prototype set to release for players to test the game out, via the Nintendo eShop channel, which should have been already released, but wasn't.

Keiji Inafune used to work at Capcom and was the former head-hancho behind this project. He has brought us recent titles like Dead Rising and Lost Planet. He had also worked on past titles over the years like Resident Evil 2, Onimusha, and the game franchise that made him well known, Mega Man. Before leaving Capcom, he actually had been working on Mega Man Universe and as stated just above, Mega Man Legends 3.

After the word of the game's cancellation made word around the game industry and many fans being disappointed, here's what Mr. Inafune had to say on his blog to his former team:

Today's cancellation decision is out of my control, but there's something I'd like to tell the staff: 'I'm sorry.'

It's a real shame. I mean, I was a fan of the original Mega Man Legends when it was released on the PS1 back in the day. To think that we would've finally gotten a new sequel after all these years and looking good in its videos that were released - it would've been awesome to hear fans "Squee". Who knows, maybe, maybe not - some things can't disappear entirely in my opinion.

Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 Confirmed, New Characters Leaked

Barely six months after the original games release, we now have confirmation that we will be getting a new version of Marvel vs. Capcom 3. Capcom released a video yesterday showing gameplay, complete with four new characters, Hawkeye and Ghost Rider on the Marvel side, Strider and Firebrand for Capcom.

Shortly after the announcement of the game Joystiq managed to find art assets for a total of 12 characters on Capcom's press site. The list of all twelve fighters is located below.

Capcom

  • Strider
  • Firebrand
  • Vergil
  • Frank West
  • Phoenix Wright
  • Nemisis

Marvel

  • Hawkeye
  • Ghost Rider
  • Rocket Raccoon
  • Dr. Strange
  • Nova
  • Iron Fist

Yes you read that correctly, Phoenix Wright. Capcom has released a statement to the public saying that outside of the four officially announced fighters nothing has been confirmed.

"Today we announced Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 for PS3 and X360 as well as the first four characters and a playable build for this week's San Diego Comic-Con," says the company. "As part of that, you may have seen some of our new characters for the game pop up on the Internet a bit earlier than anticipated. We are very happy with the positive response to the lineup, but at this point we're only going to focus on the four characters (Strider, Firebrand, Ghost Rider, Hawkeye) we have officially revealed. As for the other eight additional characters, we will have a ton of info, videos, screens and playable code in the coming months."

The wording of that statement makes it sound like the leaked list isn't far off.

Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 will be a full retail release, though much like Super Street Fighter IV it sounds like the game will be a bit cheaper at $39.99. Capcom has stated that there is simply too much content to make these add-ons DLC, this content includes the characters, as well as a long requested spectator mode.

Mega Man Legends 3 Cancelled

The Blue Bomber just can't catch a break. It was announced today via the Capcom-Unity blog that the upcoming 3DS followup to the popular Mega Man Legends franchise has been cancelled. This cancellation comes just a few months after the XBLA/PSN downloadable title Mega Man Universe was canned.

Mega Man Legends 3 was going to be the series first foray onto the 3DS, with a prototype of the game planning to release via the eShop.

"Unfortunately it was not felt that the Mega Man Legends 3 Project met the required criteria," says Greg Moore Community Liason at Capcom, "and it is with regret that we must announce that the Mega Man Legends 3 Project has been cancelled, meaning that Capcom will not be releasing the Prototype or the full game."

Rest assured though, the Mega Man franchise isn't done. The Q&A in the blog post states that the Mega Man series is an "important franchise" and that the company "will continue to pursue opportunities to create new titles in the series."

The blog post also notes that this cancellation has nothing to do with Mega Man creator Keiji Inafune leaving Capcom.

Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D Shipping on June 28th

Mercenaries, the much beloved mode in Resident Evil 4 and Resident Evil 5, which had previous iterations in the past games, will have it's own standalone version of all the classic levels with old and current characters, on the Nintendo 3DS. Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D was one of many games that showcased the power of Nintendo's new handheld at last year's E3, with no exact release date. Today my friends, we have gotten that release date, which is this summer on the 28th.

Capcom has put out a trailer to announce this. All in all, it's pretty damn cheesy, ha. Check it out!

Be Part of the Development of Mega Man Legends 3 for Nintendo 3DS!

Wait, what? Normally betas are a thing of the norm, especially with online multiplayer, but a prototype version of a single player game? That's just crazy talk, ha! Being released on the same day as the Nintendo eShop channel, it's interesting to see both Nintendo and Capcom pull something like this. Capcom has also released a press release explaining how you can get your hands on it and help develop the long-awaited sequel:

"After years of waiting, the new installment of Mega Man Legends draws closer with Mega Man Legends 3: Prototype Version. Available as a download, Mega Man Legends 3: Prototype Version will be a launch title when Nintendo eShop opens for business.

Mega Man Legends 3 is the first Capcom game to be co-developed by the fans. Prototype Version gives players the first taste of Mega Man’s upcoming open-world action/adventure game, and lets them see a game still early in the development process. It also introduces a new character to the franchise, the reckless leader of a sky biker gang, Barrett.

Be the first to try out his new close combat gameplay style, and see first-hand some of the fan contributions to the game come to life. Also, once you have finished the core missions, receive access to areas of the game not yet finished, as well as a debug menu that gives you special moves and abilities.

Once you experience the game, let your voice be heard by heading to www.capcom-unity.com/devroom and join the community of Servbots who are helping design the game. Get insight into what it takes to build a game, learn about the development process, and interact with the members of the Development Team themselves. But most importantly, be creative. No matter how large or small your idea is, you have the chance to see it come to life and get your name in the credits of the game!"

Not only did we get this awesome announcement, but we also have this trailer to coincide with it!

It's been a while since I played Mega Man Legends on the good 'ol PS1 and hearing that we can try out the game and contribute it is just something that's pretty damn exciting to be part of.
