NetherRealm is finally starting to roll out DLC characters for Mortal Kombat 9. These character releases will start on June 21 with the release of the red female ninja Skarlet. Not really a surprise as we've known of her existence for a while, and its been a few weeks since the games last batch of DLC.
What is more of a surprise is what characters we get after that. IGN is reporting that there will be three more fighters after Skarlet. First up will be the blind swordsman Kenshi who has also been a big rumor for some time now. After Kenshi we'll be getting the greatest reference character ever, the "Purple" ninja "Rain." Finally there will be a fourth fighter after everyone else, no word yet though on who that will be.
A lot of people have been wondering how these new characters will affect things like online play and character compatibility, no worries. NetherRealms will be releasing a "compatibility pack" alongside each character. This pack will not only allow players who have the DLC to play with those who don't, they will also come with some new character skins. For instance the first pack (which drops with Skarlet) will have UMK 3 skins for Cyrax and Sektor. Oh and each one of these packs will be free so even if you don't want the new characters you can still get some new duds for the current roster.
